Moxie Kitchen & Cocktails
is the only independently owned and operated restaurant built from the ground
up at the Town Center. So too is its staff.
Having won the prestigious James Beard Award for best chef in 2009 &
2010, Tom Gray serves up American cuisine with a distinctly southern
flair. Featuring such regional favorites
as Crispy Fish Po’ Boys, Brunswick Stew, Shrimp & 3 Cheese Grits, and Fried
Chicken & Waffles, Chef Gray shows his southern roots. Yet he
can still add a few surprises to the menu, with entrees like homemade gnocchi
and Seared Scallops with Bacon & Gouda Creamed Corn.
Open for lunch, dinner and
Sunday brunch, Moxie prides itself on creating all their dishes from scratch,
as well as working with a host of local farmers. This
means that all their ingredients from honey and cured meats to specialty
cheeses are produced locally. Another thing that brings many to the
Jacksonville eatery is their vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus. This
means that people with dietary restrictions can find a wealth of dishes made
specifically for them. (There is even a
children’s menu available at Moxie, which makes the restaurant a great place
for the entire family.)

While the menu at Moxie has a
core of favorites, the menu changes with the season. Chef Gray’s wife Sarah lends a hand when it
comes to adding some of the most up to date menu items to Moxie’s menu.

Moxie also offers several
dining areas, including two outdoor patios,
and an upstairs lounge, as well as the main restaurant. The upstairs lounge is a great place to have
a cocktail. It also allows groups a
place to hold mixers Moxie features its late night happy hour in the upstairs
lounge that starts at 10 pm on Friday and Saturday night.
If you’re looking for a place
to go for happy hour, Moxie’s regular happy hour is offered seven days a week from 3-7 pm. This
includes a $4 before five special that
sweetens the deal even more for those who can manage to duck out of work before
5 pm.
If you’re looking for a place
to go for Sunday brunch, Moxie offers their take on this tradition from 10 am
to 3 pm. Their brunch menu includes such
specialties as Pastrami Benedict, Biscuits & Gravy, and the Hangtown Omelet
which includes fried oysters, bacon and avocado. They also offer an extensive menu of brunch
cocktails, including bottomless Mimosas.
If you haven’t reached the bottom, after all, that, the eatery offers a number of desserts, such as Upside Down Plum
Cake and Deep-Dish Buttermilk Pie, along with Vegan and gluten-free desserts.
Moxie Cowhide Room |
If you’re interested in
either private or group dining, Moxie Kitchen offers several private and
semi-private spaces that can accommodate anywhere from 20-300 guests. This
includes the Cowhide Room, which, as its name implies, has a unique personality
all its own. This room adjoins the
upstairs bar and can accommodate up to 28 guests. Those interested in finding out more about
group bookings should call Erica
Schiavone at 904-373- 7932.
As for checking out this
unique dining experience, Moxie Kitchen & Cocktails is located in the Town
Center at 4972 Big Island Drive next to the Nordstrom Rack, tucked behind the
Verizon store. Because
when it comes to finding a dining venue that offers something different in
Jacksonville, this is most definitely a restaurant with real moxie.

I go to the Town Center regularly and never new about Moxie until now. I am definitely going to make the trip this weekend. It sounds like a really interesting place.
